Public Notice the Air Force Civil Engineer Center

PUBLIC NOTICE THE AIR FORCE CIVIL ENGINEER CENTER IS CONDUCTING A CERCLA FIVE-YEAR REVIEW AT THE FORMER GENTILE AIR FORCE STATION (ALSO KNOWN AS DEFENSE ELECTRONICS SUPPLY CENTER) DAYTON, OHIO The United States Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) is conducting the fourth Five-Year Review of the selected remedies that are being implemented to address environmental contamination at the former Gentile Air Force Station (AFS). For some environmental cleanup sites, the remedial action can take longer than five years. Under "Superfund," or the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), reviews of long-term remedial actions are required at least every five years to ensure continued protection of human health and the environment until the site is closed. Five-year reviews are also conducted on sites where the remedial action is complete, but where contaminants, pollutants, or other hazardous substances remain at levels that will not allow unlimited use or unrestricted exposure. The review assesses the effectiveness of protective measures at such sites. When the review is completed (anticipated later in 2023), the report will be available for public access at the office of the City of Kettering, 3600 Shroyer Road, Kettering, Ohio 45429. Additional information can be found on the Air Force's Online Administrative Record file database at: https://ar.afcec-cloud.af.mil/ If you have any questions or would like more information on the sites under review, please contact: Sean D.
