Update on Lead Found in Trenton PWS Distribution

Update on Lead Found In Trenton PWS Distribution System Additional samples were collected within the City of Trenton Distribution System and test results did not exceed the lead federal action level. 40 Samples were collected at different homes throughout the distribution system, 4 of which had results that did exceed 15 ug/L. These samples were collected from July 3, 2020 through September 30, 2020. 30 routine samples initially had produced a 90th percentile level of 20.3 ug/L, which had exceeded the federal action level. These samples were collected from July 3, 2020 through September 14, 2020. As of 10/8/2020, our 90th percentile (90% of samples results below this value) for lead is 9.7 ug/L. If the 90th percentile for lead sample results exceeded 15 ug/L, Trenton PWS would've been required to take action to correct the exceedance. A 90th percentile of 9.7 does not exceed the federal action level. Lead can cause serious health problems especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead typically enters water primarily as a result of the corrosion, or wearing away, of pipes or materials containing lead in the distribution system and household plumbing. There are steps the public can take to reduce their lead exposure, which include running the water for 30 seconds to 3 minutes (or until it is noticeably colder) before using it for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby formula.
